It’s been a rough year for the defending World Series champs in regards to injuries, especially Mike Moustakas. The 27-year-old third baseman just came off the disabled list on May 21 after fracturing his thumb at the beginning of the month. Now, he will miss the remainder of the 2016 season after tearing his ACL during a collision with Royals left fielder, Alex Gordon. If you watch the collision, it looks like Gordon actually got the worst of it, but his injury isn’t quite as bad, although he did fracture his wrist, and was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 23. He’s expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

The loss of Moustakas the rest of the way is a pretty big blow for the Royals, as he was ninth in OPS (.801) among the 20 American League players with at least 100 plate appearances, who also qualify at third base. Perhaps where Kansas City will feel this loss the most is in the absence of Moustakas’ defense, as he was fifth among American League third basemen in UZR/150 (12.1).
