Daily MailA heroic student charged at the Oregon college shooter and was shot five times as he tried to save his classmates, his family said.

Army veteran Chris Mintz, 30, was taken to hospital following the massacre at Umpqua Community College on Thursday morning.

His cousin Derek Bourgeois told DailyMail.com that Mintz faced XXXXX, 26, who killed at least 10 people at the school in Roseburg.

‘I was told he went after the shooter,’ Bourgeois told DailyMail.com.

‘There was no way he was going to stand around and watch something this horrific happen.’

Bourgeois, who lives in North Carolina, said no vital organs were hit when Mintz was shot multiple times, but he is expected to recover after spending most of Thursday in surgery.

According to his family, both of his legs are broken and he will have to learn to walk again.

And he had started the day yesterday by wishing his six-year-old son Tyrik ‘happy birthday’ on Facebook before headed to the community college where things took a tragic turn.

According to the Daily Beast, he was heard saying ‘It’s my son’s birthday’ as he lay wounded at the school.

THIS is the name everybody should be saying over and over again and remembering from what happened yesterday. Chris Mintz. Not the piece of shit whose name I X’ed out in the news paragraph and won’t ever mention on this blog. He’s currently burning in hell and hopefully soon forgotten. Chris Mintz however is alive and recovering in the hospital after rushing straight at the shooter and taking him down despite being shot 5 times. Chris Mintz risked his life and broke both his legs and now has to learn how to walk again because he risked his life to try and save others.

And once these names are released, you should remember them too:

Daily MailTwo hero cops who rushed to defend helpless students from the Oregon school shooter have been praised this evening as a dramatic audio recording captured the moment they confronted the killer.

John Hanlin, the sheriff of Douglas County, Oregon, praised two cops who he said entered the school building within minutes of the attack starting, before firing at shooter XXXXXXXX, 26.

Moments later a police radio recording captured one of the breathless officers saying they were exchanging shots with XXXX, before he radioed back later to say: ‘Suspect down’.

XXXX killed at least 10 people and wounded another seven when he attacked Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, this morning.

According to distraught witnesses, XXX shot a teacher in the head through a classroom door, then forced students to lie on the floor and then asked them to stand up one by one. Survivors of the tragedy said he then asked the victims their religion before gunning them down.

Police have since revealed that XXX had an AR-style assault rifle, along with three handguns.

After a short lapse in communication, the officer radios back, shouting down the line that the ‘suspect is down’.
Having neutralized the threat, likely saving dozens of lives in the process, the officers then turn their attention to the wounded.

Running straight at an active shooter to save your classmates despite having a son at home. Sprinting into a building where a psychopath with an assault rifle and 3 handguns is firing at everything that moves with no backup. These are people who should be all over the media for the next few weeks.

Unfortunately my guess is that today is the only time you read about them, while the next two weeks at CNN are spent with panels of experts analyzing the 50 page manifesto and hundreds of 4Chan posts from the scumbag killer while flashing a rotation of 3 of his Facebook pictures across the screen every 10 seconds. Bonus points if he’s holding a gun in one.

UPDATE: THE GOFUNDME FOR CHRIS
