HuffPo- The Harvard administration is considering creating a nap room on campus after sophomore Yuqi Hou started a petition that received 191 yes votes, The Boston Globe reports. It’s one of three petitions that gained formal consideration last month by Dean of Harvard College Evelynn M. Hammonds. Hou found in an online survey, which 432 undergraduates responded to, that just 21 percent of Harvard undergrads felt like they got enough sleep, and that nearly 60 percent were in favor of establishing a nap room, The Harvard Crimson reports. ”Most students operate daily on a sleep deficit, to the detriment of their health and productivity,” Hou, 19, told The Globe. “For those getting insufficient sleep at night, naps can provide alertness and help students take a break from their hectic schedules.” Some students say they notice that libraries are doubling as mega nap rooms. “I see, every so often, people fall asleep in the library, and it’s sort of inconvenient,” Harvard senior Sam Singer told NBC Boston affiliate WHDH on Thursday. “And if you live far away from the yard you live far away from places where your classes might be to go back in the middle of the day. I know people often talk about taking a nap.”
I know a lot of groups have been the target of my hyperbolic wrath during my time here, but in all seriousness I might not hate anybody more than people that are always bitching about how tired they are. This may or may not entirely due to the time during exams last semester I actually heard a girl tell her friend “I hate finals week because all the coffee makes me shit more,” but regardless, these people are absolutely insufferable. I know exactly the type of person that these rooms are for, too: The girls who always have a cup of coffee in their hand and who can’t have a conversation without bitching about how much work they have even though they were the ones who consciously decided to be a nursing major, even though reality their schedule actually consists of looking at reaction gifs on Tumblr in class for two hours, then spending three more in spin class and walking around the track at the gym, all with 20 minute breaks in between each activity to get coffee because “OMG I just can’t function without because did I tell you how fucking busy I am?”
It’s bad enough dealing with these people going to a school where kids have at least some ambition, and judging by his article I can’t even imagine how bad it must be at Harvard. God forbid people fall asleep in the library or have to walk 10 minutes back to their dorm to avoid the embarrassment of falling asleep in public! You’re an Ivy League school, not a fucking daycare. Clean it up. I have a great strategy for fighting exhaustion, and it’s called sleeping 10 hours a night because I’m smart enough to realize that the real secret is doing just enough work to get by. It’s all about priorities.
