AL – Marshall Henderson has quickly become a national college basketball sensation at Ole Miss this season, as much for his on-court antics as his 3-point shooting. Ole Miss is the junior guard’s fourth school in four years, after previous stops at Utah, Texas Tech and South Plains (Texas) Junior College since he left his hometown of Hurst, Texas. Less is known about the excitable Henderson’s past, but USA Today revealed a troubling bit in a feature on Henderson published online Wednesday.
In the story, reporter Nicole Auerbach writes that Henderson’s 25-day jail stint for probation violation last spring was due to a failed drug test (Henderson was on probation for a 2010 forgery charge). Citing court documents from the Tarrant County, Texas, District Attorney’s office, Auerbach reports that Henderson tested positive for cocaine, marijuana and alcohol. The story quoted an email statement from Ole Miss assistant athletic director Kyle Campbell reading, “We were aware of the issues from Marshall’s past when he signed. Those misdemeanor charges have been addressed through the legal process, and there have been no issues since he has been a part of our program.”
And introducing the most obvious report in the history of news. Marshall Henderson testing positive for mass amounts of coke and weed last year. Every single person you tweeted or emailed me this link last night said the exact same thing too. ”Least surprising story ever.” Also got a bunch of tweets about how he was busted buying $800 worth of weed in high school with counterfeit money. That’s so Marshall. Just a classic Marshall Henderson move. Like no shit he tried to buy pounds of weed at all times of his life and snorted massive amounts of blow. Look at the fucking guy. Definition of a loose cannon. Know what would surprise me? If we wasn’t high on cocaine while this GIF was happening. That would shock me. If he wasn’t geeked out of his face. Other than that you just got to take the good with the bad with this guy, the good being lots of points and blog material, the bad being of course the dozen or so arrests and suspensions coming up shortly in his career.
