   The problem is the criminals and psychos, not the firearms. Maybe we should outlaw motorcycles too, because I'm uncomfortable sharing the road with some of their drivers. For that matter, sports cars too. In fact, let's ban everything controversial possession in our society, because it upsets some.

   When they wrote the constitution, they didn't have this problem because we could take these psychopaths out to a field and shoot them (not to mention a lot of people were armed in some capacity). Now we pay for them to live comfortably in the meantime.

   Here's the thing with those who lobby for gun control, they never present any rational evidence to back up their emotional claims. They would have you believe guns are the leading cause of crime and that banning them would result in a precipitous drop in crime rates. Fact of the matter is this, violent crime rates peaked in this country 25 years ago when gun laws were at their most restrictive and few states allowed concealed carry. Since then 41 states have put laws on the books to issue concealed carry permits and gun sales in 2012 are at an all time high. Violent crime is dramatically down across the board overall but remains high in those states with restrictive gun laws. The UK's complete ban on defensive weapons that extends to not only firearms but also knives (steak, butter, w/e), batons, or even knitting needles has led to a violent crime explosion. It's time to face the facts, prohibition never works, because those willing to break laws concerning robbery or murder aren't going to be bothered by those that concern firearms. That's not even getting into the issue that a 115 lbs woman deserves every means necessary to be able to defend herself from an assailant. Or would you gun grabbers prefer a rape victim to a dead rapist.     kcmoranger, nobody wants to completely prohibit guns. they need to be more regulated. a woman deserves the right to defend herself, does that mean she needs a fully automatic assault rifle in her purse? but since you love numbers so much, explain how china has a 75% lower homicide rate despite 1 billion more people? anything to do with nobody having fucking glocks and sig sauers on their hip to go to the grocery store?

    @wight82-fully auto weapons are all ready illegal. High cap magazines are illegal. Afganistan has a lower homicide rate than the US does that make it safer to live there? Chinas homicide rate is low because of a high poverty rate. People are too budy in the rice fields. And homicide "rate" has nothing to do with population levels, as it is a rate (per 100k) not overall population. Tobacco, alcohol, each vehicles kill far more than guns. What is going to stop a crazy from driving through a crowd with a plow truck? Nothing. If a crazy wants to kill people they will.

    by kcmoranger if you don't think that things need to change in terms of gun control than you are a certifiable idiot. no other way to put it. If you think it is ok for Suzy Cupcakes to have a fucking .223 Assault Rifle sitting in her bedroom because she likes to shoot shit, you need to do more research. And you can write down all your fucking statistics that cater to your argument all you want. There is something fundamentally wrong with some 42 year old stay at home mom owning a combat weapon that is designed to kill other human beings. It is designed for war dickhead.     Just because it looks like a combat weapon, dosent mean it is. It is no differant than a .223 "hunting" rifle other than looks. Both are semi-auto. You can't own a .233 fully auto without a class III permit, which are VERY difficult to get.

    Oh no reneeportnose? Shit man my bad. I was under the impression that a .223 Assault Rifle like the one used to kill the kids in CT could fire 60 rounds per minute and hold a 100 rounds in a clip. Semi-Automatic assault rifles are used to kill people buddy. If you believe the shit that is coming out of your mouth, you need to do more research. It wasn't a fucking hunting rifle. You don't hunt with assault rifles in less you are a fucking stiff. Well maybe you do hunt with one, you hunt people.

    You are under the wrong impression. It was a semi-auto and it wasnt 100 round clip. But dont let facts get into the way of an argument. A hunting rifle can be used to kill someone. A knife can be used to kill someone. A truck can be used to kill someone. Many people use these style guns for hunting,target shooting and home defense. It looks scary, but it is no more dangerous than any other hunting rifle. Assault rifle does not mean fully auto. FYI- Im not a gun owner or hunter, but am very familiar with gun. You on the other hand dont have a clue about them.

    FYI- just about any semi-auto gun can shoot 60 rounds a minute with the right clip...from a .22 cal to a shotgun. Many states (including mass) have bans on high cap magizines, something I would be in favor of.
