Huff Po – The Rocky Mountain High just got a whole lot higher. On Tuesday night, Amendment 64 — the measure seeking the legalization of marijuana for recreational use by adults — was passed by Colorado voters, making Colorado the first state to end marijuana prohibition in the United States. With about 36 percent of precincts reporting at the time of publishing, 9News and Fox31 report that Amendment 64 has passed. Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, a vocal opponent to the measure, reacted to the passage of A64 in a statement late Tuesday night:
“The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will. This will be a complicated process, but we intend to follow through. That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug so don’t break out the Cheetos or gold fish too quickly.”
Feel like a lot of people woke up disheartened this morning. Half pissed that Obama won, half happy but not feeling the hope they had 4 years ago, all disenfranchised with the whole political system after seeing how split the country is, a little uneasy about the economy. Well not the fucking potheads! Wakin up jumping out of bed with their heads held high whistling ready to conquer the day. Just a great moment in weed history. Like planting the flag in Iwo Jima and landing on the moon all rolled into one blunt. Been fighting so hard so long for a day like today and finally achieved it. Yes it’s just two states but that’s how all movements start. Before you know it every state in the union will have motherfuckers lounging on street corners pounding Cheetos and Gold Fish and blaring Bob Marley with no fear of police reprisal. A beautiful day for the stoners.
PS- Was going to say I might have to move to Canada if the Feds shut this down to avoid the riots, but knowing potheads they’ll probably just get really mad, get realllyyy illegally stoned and forget about it while watching 6 hours of Chappelle Show reruns.
