HuffPo- Junior Garcia, a 19-year-old college student from Texas, is on a mission that will take him across America in the name of his faith. “That day, I decided to take up my cross. And I felt so strong in my heart. And I felt Him tell me where to go and how to go,” Garcia told CBS Dallas. Garcia, a graduate of Lake Worth High School who is studying to become a physician’s assistant, is carrying a 12-foot cross on a 37 day, 1,369-mile journey to the nation’s capital. Accompanied by his parents and members of his Pentecostal church, Garcia plans to carry the cross to the White House and then pray. A close-up photo obtained by MSNBC shows Garcia carrying a white cross that has been signed numerous times, though video from CBS Dallas (above) shows him carrying an unpainted wooden cross that has wheels on the bottom.
I’m not going to knock this kid too hard because despite what anyone says he has good intentions and is actually doing something with his life, which is more than I could ever say for myself. But if you’re going to walk halfway across the country with a cross over your back to prove how awesome God is or whatever his mission is, you better not half ass it. How pissed must Jesus be right now watching this charade? What a slap in the face. If you’re going to sacrifice yourself for God you better do it right, and by do it right I do not mean put your twelve foot tall wooden cross on a pair of fucking wheels when the camera goes away because you decided it was too heavy to carry over your shoulder. When the most persecution you’re facing is a cop telling you you can’t walk on the shoulder of the highway, you better step your game up in other areas or else I just can’t take you too seriously. But if you really have to, go ahead and bitch about the two blisters you have on your feet after walking for 20 miles in a pair of New Balance while your disciples follow you in a golf cart full of water and beef jerky. That sounds so much worse than walking through the desert in sandals and being nailed to a cross and left to die.
