Heroic Driver Stops Kid From Biking On Sidewalk

HuffPo- A 14-year-old boy in Holiday, Florida, is lucky to be alive after being hit by a swerving SUV while he was on his bike.

The incident happened Monday afternoon when a gold 1998 Ford Expedition SUV ran a stop sign and began to lose control, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The SUV drove off the street into a yard before hitting a mailbox, a parked car and the boy, later identified as Johnny A. Walsh.

Despite taking a hit, Walsh managed to stand up after being hit. He was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, such as bumps and bruises on his legs, hip and arms, according to WTSP TV.

I recognize that there was a terrible scene in Times Square earlier today involving a car hitting people. Thoughts and prayers to those affected by that horrific episode.

This is a very different situation. First, this kid is fine. Second, he’s riding his bike on the sidewalk so he’s the real criminal here. The driver spotted the kid biking on the sidewalk and said, “not on my watch.” He’s the leader of the neighborhood watch program that keeps the streets, and sidewalks, safe. When he saw this blatant violation, he had no choice but to attempt to remove the biker from the sidewalk. You can see the driver make this decision here:

The sidewalk criminal, realizing he was caught red-handed, attempts to ditch his bike and pretend that he’s walking on the sidewalk, like a coward. Exhibit B:

Fortunately for justice, this is not our hero’s first citizen’s arrest. He uses his bumper to subdue the perp with a perfect form tackle. Shades of Lawrence Taylor in Exhibit C:

The form is so good that it almost seems the criminal is glued to the car’s grill. Thankfully, the laws of physics and sidewalk-usage are close friends, and they collaborate to deal with this violent, dangerous monster.

Despite the happy ending, collateral damage took out two innocent mailboxes. I’m sure they were full of life-saving medicine for children, who probably passed away when they didn’t receive their treatments. All because some kid selfishly chose to break the law and bike on the sidewalk.
