NFL Picks

Season Record 18-13 - Last Week 3-3 - Mortal Lock Record 5-2

Green Bay at Buffalo +3

As much as I hate betting on toilet bowls, I had to get in the mix on this one.  The Packers have been playing better recently and the Bills flat out suck.   And I don’t think Buffalo will really have a home field advantage in this game because the crowd could care less at this point and the Packers are used to playing in cold weather.   As a rule I don’t like betting on games that involve two horrible teams, but I also have a rule that says I shouldn’t gamble anymore either.  So two negatives equal a positive in this case and we’ll take the Pack in our toilet bowl of the week game.

The Pick – Green Bay

New Orleans at TB +1.5

Tampa Bay is one of the best terrible teams in the league.  They lose virtually every week but they are always in the game.  Even last week when they lost by two TD’s to the Giants, they actually played decent.  It wasn’t like they got dominated on the line of scrimmage or anything like that.  In fact if Joey Galloway didn’t drop like 7 straight passes the Bucs probably would have covered.   The last time these two teams met, Tampa lost by a field goal at New Orleans and I feel like a change of venue is enough to change the outcome.  Also, I’m still not convinced the Saints are for real especially after they got whooped by Baltimore last week (That’s another team that I think are a bunch of frauds).  As a side note, the fact that Baltimore played well in the first game that Brian Billick declared himself dictator is like the worst thing that’s happened to me in months.  I despise Brian Billick.  It wouldn’t surprise me if after the game he called HBO and tried to get a sequel to Hard Knocks or whatever that show was called where he got to act like he was God.

The Pick - TB

Indy at Pats

Don’t know what the line is, don’t care.

The Pick – Pats

Atlanta at Detroit +6

Call me crazy, but despite Roy Williams’s declaration that the Lions are going to run the table the rest of the season, I’m still picking the Falcons here.   And let me just say something about Michael Vick.  I’m a huge fan of his and have been ever since he almost single handedly beat FSU in the National Championship game.  That is still the greatest performance by one player I’ve ever seen in a big game.  And I don’t care what you say about him, he is the only guy in the NFL capable of winning games all by himself.  Sure he can be erratic, but if he starts getting on a roll throwing the ball then watch out because I’m not sure anybody outside of New England can beat him.

The Pick – Falcons

Browns at Chargers -14

The Chargers got back to their winning ways last week as they crushed the Rams at home.  It should be more of the same this week as the lowly Browns come to town.   Cleveland beat the Jets at home last week which means they aren’t due to win another game for about 4 or 5 weeks.   The most points that the Browns have scored all season is 21.  And they’ve only reached the mythical 20 pt plateau twice this year.   You’ve got to figure the Chargers are putting up at least 35 in this game because Marty only gets conservative against teams that are capable of coming back on him.  (Figure that one out)   I love the Chargers here as my mortal lock.

Mortal Lock – SD

Miami at Chicago -14

Do you think the Bears were mad at the way they played at Arizona on MNF?   They were beating the 49ers 41-0 at half time last week.  I’ve never even heard of that.  Even David Klingler back at the University of Houston days didn’t hang 41 pts on somebody before half time.  Now another juggernaut is coming to town in the Miami Dolphins.   I don’t see any reason to expect why this one won’t be another total white wash.  I mean the Dolphins are horrible.  And what is up with the Bears schedule?  The last three weeks they’ve played Arizona, SF, and Miami.  These teams have 3 wins combined on the season.    I think Everett High School could give the Bears a better game than these teams.

The Pick - Chicago
