NFL Picks

We had a decent week last week in the NFL going 2-2 but nailing our mortal lock as the Bears crushed the Seahawks 37-6.   Not surprisingly I haven’t heard from all the people who sent me nasty grams for betting against the Seahawks.  The sad part of the day is that we just missed cashing in on the greatest back door cover of all time in the Colts vs. Jets game.   If the Colts defensive back didn’t somehow trip over himself after picking up the last lateral on that Stanford vs. Cal play he cruises to a game ending TD.  I'm still not convinced that the Fireman didn't shoot him from the crowd with a pellet gun or something. I mean I still can’t believe he fell down. It wasn’t like he was stumbling or anything like that. He had already gotten his balance and was in full sprint mode and then boom he just falls down. It was horrific. My heart has never had a faster emotional swing than it did on that play. I mean I jumped up and then totally collapsed. It still gives me chest pains just to watch it.  Anyway on to this week’s picks…

Season Record 10-7

Last Week 2-2

Mortal Locks 3-1

Detroit at Minnesota -7

This is what people in the business call a feeling game.    I have no idea why, but I like the Lions here.   I just don’t think the Vikings are good enough to blow anybody out even Detroit.  And with the exception of the Bears game, the Lions have played everybody on their schedule tough.    I’m not saying that they are going to win here, but I think it will be close throughout.  Hopefully this line will move another pt before kickoff as well.

The Pick – Detroit

Miami at New England – 9.5

I wonder how Sports Illustrated is feeling about their prediction that the Dolphins would go to the Superbowl?   Dr. Z should be fired.   This could be the worst prediction in the history of sports.   I mean the Dolphins have a real shot at the #1 pick in next year’s NFL draft.  That’s how bad they are.   I’m not sure what is worse, losing to the Texans or only beating the Titans by a field goal which they did the week before.  I understand that Miami traditionally plays the Pats tough, but they haven’t been this bad in a long time.   The Pats could sleepwalk through this game and still win by 10 pts.

Mortal Lock – Pats

KC at Arizona – pk

It looks like Arizona is well on their way to another year of being everybody’s sleeper team that doesn’t come close to making the playoffs.   But you can’t criticize Denny Green for his team’s struggles as he has handled the QB situation like a genius in Arizona.    Last week he announced that Matt Leinart would replace Kurt Warner only to change his mind the next day and say that Warner was his guy to lead them to the playoffs.  This lasted all of 2 quarters until Green benched Warner and put in the rookie.    And apparently that’s who will start for the Cardinals this week.   Hmm, it looks like somebody is suffering a crisis of confidence.  Anyway, anybody who knows anything about anything knows that it’s always good to be against a rookie QB in the NFL and that’s exactly what I’m going to do in this one.

The Pick – KC

Washington at Giants -4

The Giants should not be favored by 4 pts against anybody right now.   Lots of people predicted them to go to the Superbowl and they are still living off that reputation.  I mean they have basically gotten the snot kicked out of them in their last two games.   Their defense hasn’t held anybody under 25 pts this season.   This game should be nip and tuck throughout and I think the Skins may win this game straight up.

The Pick - Washington
