College Picks (9.9.05)
I defy anybody to find a handicapper on planet Earth who has been better than the Stool this year in college football. Last week we went 3-1 vs. the spread including nailing our mortal lock which was Oregon over Cal. Sure we needed overtime to do it, but the money was still green when we collected it. This week we look to keep our NCAA freight train rolling with some more easy winners to help you smash your bookie in the face with a brick.
Season Record – 32-24
Last Week – 3-1
Mortal Lock Record 7-3
Uconn at Pitt -12
Somewhere along the line the Big East became the easiest conference to bet on in America. It all starts with the fact that Syracuse is an absolute joke of a football team and has no chance to cover the spread the rest of the season. And nipping at their heels lately is an awful Uconn squad. To the Huskies defense they have been ravaged by injuries at the QB position. UConn is down to their 3rd string QB and it shows. They simply can’t move the ball at all on offense. As a result the Huskies have dropped 3 straight games to Cincinnati, Rutgers and West Virginia. While Pittsburgh is hampered by the disease that is Dave Wanndstedt they should still have no problem beating this handicapped UConn team.
Mortal Lock – Pitt
South Florida at Syracuse +8
This is the first game of the season that the wise guys in Vegas have accounted for just how bad Syracuse is in the line. Two weeks ago this would have almost been a pick em game. Also, I’m not sold on South Florida by any stretch of the imagination. BUT, I’m telling you that I’ve never seen a more pathetic college football team than Syracuse. Not only are they 1-7 this year, but they are 2-6 vs. the spread. I’ve watched every quarter that this team has played the past three weeks and I still can’t believe how inept they really are. The Orange are coming off a bye week so I’m sure they’ll be jacked and pumped but they’ll need a lot more than that to hang around in this game or any game for the rest of the season.
The Pick – South Florida
LSU at Alabama +3
Let me get this straight; Alabama who is undefeated on the season is catching 3 points at home this week? Wow, talk about a slap in the face! And you know what is worse? I’m taking LSU anyway. I haven’t been sold on the Tide the entire season. I think LSU’s defense is every bit as good as Alabama’s and there is no comparison between the offenses. The only way Alabama wins this game is if they win the turnover battle by at least 3.
The Pick - LSU
