College Picks (10/26/05)

Another decent showing from the boys at the Stool last week as we went 3-2 vs. the spread including an easy mortal lock winner as Texas obliterated Texas Tech 52-17. To be honest I don’t even want to take credit for that winner because even an infant could have predicted that outcome. Unfortunately the bookmakers must have learned their lesson, because this week looks to be just about the toughest of the season. Therefore we have the fewest selections we’ve ever had in the history of Barstool Sports.

Season Record 27-22
Last Week 3-2
Mortal Lock Record 5-3

Cincinnati at Syracuse -5

Cincinnati is horrible. They are just a horrible, horrible football team. They are also our mortal lock for this week. That should give you some indication of what I think of Syracuse. I’ve unfortunately been forced to watch the Orange play Rutgers and Pitt the last two weeks on television and I’m convinced this is the worst team in the history of college football. People think I’m exaggerating when I say that Syracuse can’t execute simple things like handoffs and QB/Center exchanges, but they can’t. It is mind boggling to me that they are favored in this game. I wouldn’t install Syracuse as the favorite against Swampscott High School. I really wouldn’t. If you need more rationale for this pick how about the fact that Cincinnati beat UConn 28-17 after UConn destroyed Syracuse 26-7. This line just makes no sense on any level.

Mortal Lock – Bearcats

Ohio State at Minnesota +3

I think Minnesota is a good football team. Yes, I’m confused how they can rush for 7 million yards and still lose like they did to Wisconsin, but I still think they’re a pretty good team. But this isn’t a good match up for them. You simply can’t line up and run the ball through the tackles on every single play against Ohio State. Don’t get me wrong; Minnesota will try to do that but the Buckeye defense is WAY too good for that. Anytime you can slow down the Minnesota running game, you’re in great shape because it throws everything they do out of whack. And this is exactly what will happen in this one. The Golden Gophers will need to score 40 points to win this game and there is no way that is happening against the Buckeyes.

The Pick – OSU

Superfans at VTech -13.5

I can’t believe I’m taking the Superfans here. I’ve been preaching for the past 5 years that you never, NEVER bet against the Hokies in Blacksburg on a nationally televised night game. Weird things just seem to happen there. You could be winning in the 4th quarter and still lose by 30. Virginia Tech is the only football team in the country that goes on basketball runs. They somehow score 6 TD’s in 3 minutes capped off by the trumpet player running back a fumble for a touchdown. It just makes no sense. But I just think BC is a solid football team. As long as Quinton Porter throw under 2 interceptions, BC should be right in the thick of this thing. I don’t think they’ll win, but they should hang around all night.

The Pick - BC
