College Picks

To every thing, turn, turn, turn
There is a season, turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

Rivalry weekend is always a bittersweet time for the degenerates at Barstool Sports.  It means that college football is almost over and it’s time to start paying attention to college hoops.   My god, where has the time gone?   Anyway, it’s time to finish strong and put all those hours of watching this season to use.

Season Record – 17-20-1

Last Week 2-2

Mortal Lock Record 4-4

WV at Pitt -10.5

Despite the fact that West Virginia lost to Louisville two weeks ago I’m still one of those guys that think the Mountaineers are the best team in the conference.  There is no doubt that their defense kind of blows, but I also think they have arguably the best offense in the country.   It’s either them or Ohio State.   And I don’t see any way that Pittsburgh will be able to stop them in the Backyard Brawl.   The Panthers have been sputtering down the stretch and even though this is a huge rivalry game I don’t see them staying within two TD’s here.   And honestly I haven’t been on the wrong side of a Big East game in like 6 months.

The Pick – WV

Michigan State at Penn State -16.5

Do the bookies know what is going on at Michigan State?   Just last week they were a 1 pt favorite at home against Minnesota?  Naturally, the got crushed.  The week before that they were like a pick em against Purdue.    Umm, in case you’ve been living on Mars, the Spartans have flat out quit on the season.    Sure they had that miracle comeback against Northwestern a few weeks ago, but that was a total fluke.  And they still didn’t cover in that game by like 20 pts.    Ever since choking against ND, the Spartans have become the easiest bet against in all of football, both pro and college.   My only concern regarding this game is that John L. Smith gets another head football coaching job somewhere because I kind of feel like teams quitting on his ass is his trademark.  And that always spells money for us in the end.

The Pick – Penn State

Maryland at BC -7

Maryland may be the only team in the country that gets less respect than Rutgers which is a mouthful.   Aren’t they in first place in the ACC or something like that?    And in case you haven’t noticed the Terps have won 5 straight games including victories against Clemson, FSU and Miami in their last three games.   I can’t figure out why BC is a full touchdown favorite in this one.  Maybe it’s because it’s a night game at the Heights which everybody knows is an impossible place to play?  Ha, Ha, just kidding.    BC may win this game but it will come down to a last second field goal for sure.

The Pick - Maryland

Rutgers at Cininatti -6

I’ve made it pretty clear that I think if Rutgers goes undefeated they 100% deserve to play in the BCS championship game and if they don’t, it’s a total sham.    I love how a one loss ND team is ahead of them in the BCS rankings despite the fact they don’t have one quality win all season and Rutgers just beat the #3 team in the country.  It makes no freaking sense.  The bottom line is that if you go undefeated in a BCS conference and there are only 2 undefeated teams in the country than you automatically should play in the title game.  END OF STORY.    Now having said all that, I think the Scarlet Knights are going to lose this week.   It kills me to say that, but this game is the perfect trap game for Rutgers.  They are coming off the biggest win in the history of the school and now they are playing a night game at Cincinnati who is very underrated and has one of the best defenses in the country.   I wish I didn’t have to bet this game, but it’s too good to pass up.

Mortal Lock – Cincinnati.

Michigan at Ohio State -6.5

Let me start by saying I flat out hate this line.   The wise guys in Vegas really nailed this one.  I don’t know how anybody can have a strong opinion on this game.  But what kind of gambler would I be if I didn’t make a pick on the Game of the Century?   And for the sake of full disclosure people should know that I graduated from the University of Michigan.  Having said that, I don’t think there is any doubt that Ohio State is a better team than Michigan.   And I don’t think there is any doubt that Jim Tressell is a better coach than Lloyd Carr.    Also, I love the fact that Troy Smith can make plays with his feet while Chad Henne is like a statue.     So as much as I’d love to see the Wolverines pull this one out the pick has to be Ohio State.

The Pick- Ohio State
