College Football Picks

It’s hard to believe that the final regular season week of college football is already upon us. I guess time flies when you’re having fun. The Stool has been flat out destroying Vegas the past month. I will admit that I’m a little ashamed to brag about our success because I feel like even a chimpanzee could figure out that all you need to do is bet against Syracuse every week to make money. Anyway it’s time to finish up the season in championship style. The holidays are right around the corner and these next few weeks will determine just what kind of Christmas you and your significant others will enjoy. (And anybody who thinks this isn’t true isn’t gambling on my kind of level)

Season Record 32-23
Last Week 2-0-1
Mortal Lock Record 7-3

Syracuse at ND -34.5

The bookmaker could have set this line at 83 and it wouldn’t have scared me off. The worst part about the college football season ending is that with it one of the easiest bets in the history of gambling will sail off into the sunset. In terms of ineptitude, this years' Syracuse Orangeman team was like a solar eclipse in that it won’t be seen for another millennium. I keep on saying it, but it’s worth repeating: I’ve never seem a worse offensive football team in my life. And it all starts with their two headed monster at the QB position. Basically, they have big poison and little poison. Big poison is a huge guy who can’t move at all and little poison is a tiny guy who can’t throw at all. I don’t think whoever invented the 2 QB system had these two clowns in mind when he came up with the system. Despite how much I’ve ranted and raved about Syracuse, apparently Vegas isn’t paying attention because the Orange still haven’t come close to covering the spread recently And they won’t in this one either. They will be losing by 35 at half time. I strongly suggest not only betting on ND here, but loading up the first half line.

The Pick – ND

Ohio State at Michigan +3

Hmm, Michigan catching 3 at home vs. the Buckeyes? This tells me that Vegas is begging people to bet on the Wolverines. But I’m smarter than that. I think Ohio State is much better than Michigan this year. And unless John Cooper is going to come back and coach the Buckeyes into a choke OSU should win this game. Jim Tressel has won 3 out of 4 since becoming the Buckeyes' head coach and I think he’ll make it four out of five on Saturday. Sure I hate spotting the Wolverines the field goal but the bottom line is that the last time this game was decided by a field goal or less was in 1992 when they tied.

The Pick – Ohio State

Georgia Tech at Miami – 17

Miami is the perfect example as to why the BCS system sucks. Miami lost to FSU in the first game of the season (in a game they dominated) with a true freshman QB. They won a nail biter against Clemson in week 2 and have demolished everybody else since then, getting better every week. College Football is the only sport in the world where the object isn’t to be peaking at the end of the season. It’s so freaking stupid. I bet that if you gave a lie detector test to both USC and Texas and asked them whom they’d least want to play for the National Championship, they’d both say Miami. Nobody is playing better than the Canes right now. NOBODY. And nobody puts the fear of god into people like Miami either. I don’t care how good USC is doing, you don’t fear for your life like you do when you head to South Beach and see Miami coming out of the smoke. Georgia Tech has lost two out of their last three road games including a 51-7 defeat at the hands of Virginia Tech. This one won’t be that bad because Larry Coker doesn’t run it up on people but I’d be shocked if Miami doesn’t win by at least 20. Hence the reason for my pick.

Mortal Lock - The Canes

Virginia Tech at Virginia +7

You simply can’t compare these two teams. Virginia Tech is far superior to the Cavs. Many people were saying the Hokies were the best team in the country until they somehow “overlooked” Miami and thusly got the shit kicked out of them. But let’s throw that game out because Miami’s defense can make you do bad things, man. Besides that debacle nobody has been able to stop Marcus Vick and company. The only way that VTech doesn’t cover this line is if they are still shell shocked from getting thumped by Miami and they quit on the season. I don’t think that will happen since this is still a huge rivalry game. It’s Virginia Tech’s one chance a year to get back at all the rich smart kids who go to Virginia while they are stuck in the hell that is Blacksburg. Despite the emotional letdown of getting their national title dreams crushed the Hokies should still be able to rebound and win by 14 here.

The Pick - VTech
