Ask The Bartender

The Women of Kitty O'Shea's

Kitty O’Shea’s
131 STATE STREET
BOSTON, MASS 02109

1. Do you think people are more likely to hook up on Halloween because they're in costumes?

Liz - Definitely, there’s nothing like a bit of mystery in a girls life! It can be kind of scary to though, imagine making out with some guy and you both take off your masks and he ends up being your father or your brother, actually let’s not imagine that, can I change my answer?

Christina - Yes, who wouldn’t want to hook up with a naughty doctor or nurse? (ha ha)

2. What’s the best part about working in an Irish Bar? What's the worst?

Liz - It has to be all the cute bald guys with the hot accents that you get to work with. Not to mention their tight asses! You girls gotta get down here and check ‘em out! The worst part is that people always seem to categorize the bar. I always hear ‘Oh, Kitty O’Shea’s, it’s just another Irish bar’. That seems to be the opinion before they come here. Kitty’s is probably one of Boston’s best kept secrets. This bar really kicks ass. There isn’t a bad side to working here; it’s a great experience and really fulfilling in every way!

Christina - It has to be the workmates at Kittys. If they weren’t ‘workmates’, there are definitely one or two of them I’d like to have as ‘mates’ and I don’t mean as ‘friends’. There are some real hotties at Kittys. (Did I write that or one of my workmates?) The worst part is that I can’t understand ‘em. Weird accents! Sheltered lives! Pouring draft beers, especially Guinness, its very time consuming.

3. What's the best part about working in a bar located in Faneuil Hall? What is the worst?

Liz - I suppose it has to be the diversity of the clientele that frequent the bar. We get so many tourists from all over the world as well as plenty of Bostonians. There’s something here for everybody! The worst is that a lot of the tourists are hard to understand and especially if they’re not up to speed with the tipping system, that can be a real pain.

Christina - Parking is so cheap and so easy to find…Really! It’s fun meeting so many tourists who love to get crazy on their vacations. The worst part has to be that tourists don’t tip.

4. Is it possible for female bartenders to date guys who don't work in the industry?

Liz - The schedule makes it kind of difficult, but if you want to make it work you can. It’s probably easier to date guys who have the same timetable or job. Sometimes I feel I’m dating all the guys I work with…or at least that’s what they think anyway. Maybe I’m just working too much!

Christina – Possible, but a challenge. I actually prefer to date guys that are not in the industry.

5. On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the nightlife scene in Boston?

Liz - 5.5, most of the bars just seem to do the same thing all the time that gets real boring. At Kitty’s we’re always trying out new stuff and the live music has really taken off on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays nights. Most bars nowadays charge covers on priority nights like Fri. & Sat., and for what? All you end up doing is waiting in line to hear some overrated DJ play the same tunes every week. I’d rather listen to live music. I can listen to DJ’s for free on the radio.

Christina – I’d give it a6, living in Miami and New York is the best night life.
